Melaleuca - Idaho Falls, ID USA
January 2012

Many Americans view hot cereals as simply bowls of mushy, bland “bleh” that can only be saved by mountains of sugar. Melaleuca is hoping to change that impression with their new Simply Fit Hot Cereals. Simply Fit’s thick-cut whole oats and grains are steamed and flaked with no preservatives, chemical additives, cholesterol, or trans fat to preserve their hearty texture.

Citing findings from the experts at MayoClinic.com, Melaleuca points out that eating a healthy breakfast helps improve concentration, productivity, problem-solving, and creativity. According to Melaleuca, new Simply Fit Hot Cereals are ideal breakfast solutions because they contain antioxidants and phytonutrients
from low-fat whole grains, they support cardiovascular and overall health with
an excellent source of ALA omega-3, and they provide lasting energy and satisfaction with protein and fiber.

In addition to stating that the new Simply Fit Hot Cereals provide a fast, easy, and nutritious head start, they don’t shy away from competitive comparisons. From Melaleuca: Study finds consistent multivitamin use may reduce the risk of heart attacks for women.

A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition offers women another great reason to take nutritional supplements every day—a link to reduced risk of heart attack.

This study, conducted with 30,000 women with no history of cardiovascular disease, found that the use of multivitamins alone—compared with no use of multivitamins—was associated with a 27 percent lower risk of myocardial infarction (more commonly known as heart attack).

The study found that women using multivitamins together with other nutritional supplements fared even better, achieving a 30 percent lower risk of myocardial infarction.

While researchers agree that further studies should be conducted to better determine the effect various types and amounts of vitamins and minerals have on reducing the risk, the study lends credibility to previous observational studies. A prior Dutch study found a 51 percent lower risk of incidence of myocardial infarction in elderly women who take a multivitamin daily. (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Vol. 69, No. 2). Additionally, an American study observed that the combined use of a multivitamin plus supplements of vitamins A, C, or E to be associated with a 25 percent lower risk of coronary heart disease mortality.

While there are a number of factors at work, researchers suggested the protective effects of multivitamins on preventing heart attack may be due to antioxidant vitamins—such as vitamin C and E—as well as B vitamins and minerals present in the multivitamin formula. According to the study, "Even if multivitamins contain low amounts of antioxidant vitamins… they may be involved in mitigating the atherosclerotic process by scavenging free radicals."

While Melaleuca's products were not used in the study and are not marketed or promoted as a cure, treatment, or preventative for heart disease, the study should come as good news for users of The Vitality Pack® powered by Oligo™ given that as Oligo has been scientifically proven to maximize mineral absorption while protecting the potency of antioxidant vitamins better than traditional non-Oligo forms.

Melaleuca Has New Oligo Findings: Pioneering new research explains life-changing “Oligo™” effect

IDAHO FALLS, IDAHO (August 13, 2010)
At their annual convention held in Salt Lake City, UT, Melaleuca: The Wellness Company
® announced the findings of two landmark studies that built upon existing science surrounding their proprietary Melaleuca Oligo™ mineral binding technology. According to Scott Hollander, Melaleuca's Chief Marketing Officer, "We are seeing things that have never been seen before."

The first study, conducted by Dr. William Diehl-Jones of the University of Manitoba, took advantage of Dr. Diehl-Jones' patented human intestinal tissue model to compare actual absorption levels of various multivitamin-mineral formulations.

"For the first time in history, complete multivitamin-mineral formulas were tested to determine whether or not they were absorbable through actual living human intestinal cells," says Hollander. "This is the ultimate test for absorbability."

This is significant because standard industry tests only measure solubility in laboratory conditions, using individual minerals in isolation rather than in final formulation.

The study found that Melaleuca's Oligo formulation beat the other mineral forms tested by a margin of up to four to one.

According to Hollander, "The study clearly demonstrates that Oligo not only delivers a striking level of solubility, it also delivers a groundbreaking level of absorption through the intestinal wall. We now have scientific proof that Oligo delivers more nutrients to the body."

The second study was led by Dr. Bruno Fink of Noxygen Science Transfer and Diagnostics, a top research institution located in Elzach, Germany.

Dr. Fink is best known in the scientific community for his adaptation of Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) technology to provide visual evidence of free radical levels in a live body.

The purpose was to measure in a live body the change in free radical levels as both Oligo and inorganic mineral forms were digested.

Free radicals are highly reactive molecules with life spans as short as one-billionth of one second. An overabundance of free radicals is considered dangerous because they have the ability to damage molecules and tissues of the body. In fact, free radical damage plays a major role in the development of numerous degenerative diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, Alzheimer's disease, and some forms of cancer.

The study further confirmed that there is a definite spike in free radical activity in the digestive tract after taking a multivitamin-mineral supplement.

What was previously unknown in the entire scientific community was that the spike in free radicals was not limited to the digestive tract. The dramatic increase in free radical activity spread throughout the entire body.

More importantly, the study proved that the levels generated by Oligo were significantly lower than any inorganic mineral form.

It was the first time researchers were able to use computer imaging low-frequency EPR technology to see free radicals generated within the body caused by taking a multivitamin-mineral supplement. As Hollander says, "It proved that Oligo's protective ability extended far beyond the digestive tract. Oligo helps to limit free radicals formed during digestion from spreading throughout the entire body."
