Melaleuca Rolls Out New Compensation Plan
Over 8,000 people from 14 different countries attended Melaleuca’s 25th Annual Convention, breaking all previous attendance records. The focus of the event was the rollout of a more lucrative compensation plan for Melaleuca’s over 200,000 independent marketing representatives in the United States and Canada. This was the first major change in Melaleuca’s compensation plan in over 14 years. Melaleuca CEO Frank VanderSloot forecasts the company will pay its Marketing Executives several million more in total compensation each year and expects the company’s rate of growth to increase dramatically because of the new compensation formula. VanderSloot expects the changes to generate several new jobs at the company’s Idaho Falls headquarters.
“If the buzz on the internet and social media sites is an indication of what is coming, our new building might not be large enough,” VanderSloot said. “We have never seen this kind of response. It looks like we might have created a firestorm. The result should be thousands of new customers over the next several years”
A highlight at Melaleuca’s annual convention was the celebration of those who have paid off their home mortgages in the last year. This year, 24 families burned their mortgages as they celebrated being totally without any debt whatsoever, including no credit card debt and no car loans. VanderSloot honored these Marketing Executives with the company’s Total Financial Freedom Award.
In its history, Melaleuca has hosted 167 mortgage burnings. This exciting celebration shines a light on self-discipline, while encouraging thousands of others to live the principles that bring peace of mind from living a debt-free lifestyle. “It’s a great thing to do, and if you have to make a few sacrifices along the road, it’s worth it,” said Ruth Hanna, 80, from China Springs, Texas, who paid off her 30-year mortgage in ten years. “We are going to enjoy our freedom.”
Melaleuca, which as a company is in the unusual position of operating with no long-term debt, has long taught the value of operating without debt.
Melaleuca offers three awards to celebrate people who are progressing toward their goal of financial independence. The 1st Step to Financial Freedom Award comes for paying off all credit card debt; 2nd, the Financial Freedom Award honors those who have no debt aside from a mortgage; and the Total Financial Freedom Award recognizes those who have paid off their mortgage and have absolutely no debt.
